Restoring Windows System Image (HP EliteBook 8470w)

Short Story

If you get the error trying to restore your Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10 with the “Repair disk Windows” (it is not a Windows version specific problem):

“The system image restore failed.Error details: Windows did not find any disk which can use for …….Ensure that disks are online and no disk are excluded by mistake. (0x80042414)”

Try using the "Application and Driver Recover DVD" from HP, by loading the driver file:
:\HP_RESTORE\swsetup\INTELRST\Drivers\x64\iaStor.inf

Whole Story

I always like to have a system image of each of my computers.

After having bought a new notebook (laptop), a HP EliteBook 8470w “Mobile Workstation” it came with Windows 7 pre-installed.

My first step was perform a system image using Clonezilla.
I also performed a system image with Windows 7.
After a while I needed to restore my system from the image.

After restoring with Clonezilla my notebook did not restart any more.
The cause was, that the notebook has an SSD and a HD configured to work together in RAID 0 with “Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST)“ and Clonezilla seems not beeing able to recognize such “fake RAIDs”.

So I tried to restore with my “Repair disk Windows 7 64-bit”, but the program could not see the internal notebooks disks.
I got the following error message:

The system image restore failed.
Error details: Windows did not find any disk which can use for …
….
Ensure that disks are online and no disk are excluded by mistake. (0x80042414)

I solved this problem by using the "Application and Driver Recover DVD" from HP, by loading the driver file
:\HP_RESTORE\swsetup\INTELRST\Drivers\x64\iaStor.inf

Creating a Disk Image of Zotac ZBOX ID41 with Clonezilla

INTRODUCTION
The Clonezilla site is:
http://clonezilla.org/

I will not repeat the documentation here.

I only want to describe how I managed to boot Clonezilla from an USB attached to Zotac ZBOX ID41.

PROBLEM
I got a problem when trying to boot a USB memory stick with Clonezilla on it in order to create an Image of my yaVDR 0.3 Installation before trying to install the version 0.4 of yaVDR.

After the splash screen and having chosen the default boot method, I got a black screen.
On other computers the USB stick booted whithout problem.

I also tried other versions of Clonezilla without success (somethines I did not got even the splash screen, but only a blinking cursor).

SOLUTION
I downloaded clonezilla-live-20120127-oneiric.iso (from Download alternative stable releases) installed it (as in my other tries as described) with Tuxboot and inserted it in the front USB port.

ABOUT CLONEZILLA
I often use Clonezilla in order to create Disk / Partition images of my Computers without problem. It works perfectly performing images of Linux and Windows (XP / Vista) (FAT32 / NTFS). The interface is character oriented, but it does what you want.
